After School Care Parent
Handbook - SportsWorld
Thank you for choosing the YMCA SportsWorld After School Program. Our
after school program caters to children attending pre-kindergarten
through fifth grade. The program provides supervised activities which
improve physical, social and intellectual skills, while focusing on the
four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. The
child to counselor ratio is 15 to 1. The program operates from school’s
dismissal until 6:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
See the program hours and costs.
The SportsWorld After School
Program is designed to meet the following
goals:
1. Learn to appreciate oneself, gain confidence and self-esteem
2. Develop positive relationships
3. Learn new skills
4. Learn to appreciate diversity
5. Develop values of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring
Children will participate in a variety of activities, such as
gymnastics, rock climbing, roller skating, arts & crafts, character
building and homework time. Although we have access to a multitude of
things, no activity can be guaranteed for any specific day.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES
All participants must fill out a
SportsWorld After School registration
form to participate. The registration fee and the first week’s tuition
must be paid in-full at the time of registration. All other weeks are
due the Wednesday of the week prior to the week they are attending.
At the time of initial registration, you must commit to how many days a
week your child will attend. If a child is absent, you will still be
responsible for the full payment of your committed time. Once your spot
is reserved at registration, you are responsible for all subsequent
payments.
TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED FROM MOST MARTIN COUNTY
PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL FEE FOR TRANSPORTATION.
We currently pick up from PCE, BCE, CGE, JBE, JDP, CLE, PWE, & FAWE.
REFUND POLICY
• At the time of registration participants must commit to a specified
number of days per week. Despite your child’s attendance, you will be
responsible for all subsequent weeks after registration (until proper
notification of canceling is received.)
• No refunds or credits will be issued for days missed unless there is a
medical situation.
•Medical situations that result in missed days must be supported by a
written acknowledgment from a licensed medical practitioner. We will
then extend a credit on your account, prorated from the DATE WE RECEIVE
the written medical acknowledgment. Retroactive requests for medical
credit will not be granted.
•You may cancel your enrollment at any time. All fees are
non-refundable, non-transferable.
SNACK
A daily afternoon snack & drink will be provided by the YMCA SportsWorld.
Please inform us at registration if your child has any food allergies.
If you wish, you may send money for additional purchases at our snack
bar. Money can be securely kept in their snack bar account.
PICK UP POLICY
A photo ID is required at sign out. Parents must notify the after school
program in writing if your child is to be picked up by someone other
than a parent.
LATE PICK UP POLICY
Parents will be assessed a late pick-up fee of $1 per minute, per child
for anyone picked up later than 6:15 p.m.. These fees are to be paid
before your child returns to the program. Please notify us if an
emergency situation should arise. Our phone number is (772) 223-1606.
DRESS CODE & WHAT TO BRING
Please send your child in clothes that are cool, comfortable and easy to
manage. Socks are required for skating. Children may bring their own
skates or use the quad skates or roller blades that are provided free of
charge. Personal belongings such as Game Boys, portable stereos, CD
players, toys, etc. are not recommended. The YMCA, its director, and its
counselors reserve the right to revoke use of such items at their
discretion. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Items
unclaimed at the end of the month will be donated to a local charity.
EARLY RELEASE DAYS
There is no extra charge for Martin County early release days. Just like
regular school days, your child will be brought to SportsWorld directly
after school dismissal. Your child will have the opportunity to skate on
these days, so don’t forget their socks!
DAYS OFF FROM SCHOOL
This program operates from 9:00 am to 6:15 pm on most days off from
Martin County schools. (Complimentary drop off at 8:00 am.) We offer an
action packed day of supervised gymnastics, skating, rock climbing, soft
play and many other activities. Please see the one-day camp flier for
rate information. This rate is not included in your after school
tuition. To keep ratios down, parents must pre register 1 day in
advance. Your regular weekly tuition will be pro-rated for days out of
school. Rates are determined based on the published daily rates.
DISCIPLINE POLICY
We ask for your help to ensure that your child's conduct stays within
the limits of acceptable behavior while attending our programs. Please
take the time to review the rules with your child. Only constructive
methods of discipline such as redirection or natural consequences shall
be used to promote appropriate behavior. Occasionally, children are not
responsive to these methods. In that case, behavior will be handled with
a time-out solution, loss of special privileges, parent conferences,
suspension or expulsion.
ILLNESS/ACCIDENT POLICY
• If a child becomes ill during the day, the parent will be notified and
asked to pick-up the child as soon as possible.
• The YMCA has a No Nit (lice eggs) policy. Children with lice or nits
will not be accepted for care.
•Every precaution is taken to assure the health and safety of your
child. However, bumps and bruises do occur. As a courtesy to parents we
will notify you of these occurrences when you pick up your child.
MEDICINE POLICY
Please inform us on the registration form if we need to be alerted to
any medical information regarding your child. The YMCA staff does not
administer medications.
DID YOU KNOW?
YMCA staff members work by a code. This code was put in place to
establish appropriate employee behavior. Here are some of our
expectations of employee conduct.
•YMCA employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will
not reflect adversely on the YMCA.
•If a single child is left to the supervision of 1 employee, that
employee is required to position themselves to be visible by others.
•Staff shall never leave a child unsupervised.
•Staff will portray a positive role model for youth.
•Staff may not release children to anyone other than the authorized
parent or guardian. Staff who do not recognize the custodial parent or
legal guardian must ask for identification and check it against file
information.
•Staff may not be alone with children they meet in YMCA programs outside
of the YMCA. This includes babysitting.
For a complete copy of the YMCA of the Treasure Coast Employee Code of
Conduct, if you have any questions, or see any violations of the above
guidelines, please notify John Lass, C.E.O. @ 221-9622 ext. 226.
Thank you for working with us to build strong kids, strong families, and
strong communities.
