Field
The field of play is 40 yards wide
and 50 yards long.
A center line is placed at the
halfway mark.
A center circle is placed on the
middle of the field.
A corner arc is drawn inside each
corner.
A goal kick box is placed 3 yards in
front of each goal.
A 15 yard box in front of each goal.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS
U-10 teams play 6 on 6 with goalies.
Teams will be co-ed and should not
exceed 13 players
Teams substitute players in event of
injury or at stoppage of play.
Each player shall play half of the
game.
EQUIPMENT
Shinguards and soccer shoes or
tennis shoes are required.
White sox and black shorts are
recommended
Bring a ball to practice.
YMCA will supply a team shirt.
REFEREE
One coach from each team
will serve as a referee on the field during the game
Referees should briefly explain rule
infractions to the offending player.
YMCA will try
to provide a ref for this division.
DURATION OF GAME
Each game will consist of four
quarters 12 minutes each.
One coach or a designated time
keeper will keep track of time.
There is a 2 minute break between
quarters.
START OF PLAY
Play is started by a kick
from midfield—and following goals and each new quarter.
All players must be on their own
half of the field.
Players on the non-kicking team must
be outside the center circle.
The kicking player cannot touch the
ball a second time until it has been touched by another player(of either team).
All kick offs and free kicks shall be
INDIRECT KICKS, that means a goal cannot be scored unless it is touched by
another player before crossing the goal line.
BALL IN AND OUT OF PLAY
A ball must cross the goal line or
side line on the ground or in the air completely to end the play.
FOULS
The following infractions result in
a free kick.
Tackling from behind
Grabbing and holding
Handball- player makes contact with
ball shoulder to fingers (intentionally)
U-10 NO SLIDE TACKLING
If the defending team commits a foul
inside 15 yard box goal a free direct kick will taken from 12 yards out, in
front of the goal.
The defending team must be 5 yards
behind the kicker.
The ball is in play after the kick.
Off side rule- U-13 only-
Ball must be ahead of attacker or a defender must be even or deeper than the
attacker
THROW – IN
A throw-in will be used to
restart play after the ball crosses the SIDE LINE. The opponents of the player
who last touched the ball will do the throw –in.
A player will throw the ball in
over the head with two hands and both feet on the ground. The coach or referee
may instruct on the field.
The ball is in play when it enters
the field after a throw and may not cross the goal line or be touched by the
thrower until another player touches the ball.
GOAL-KICK
A goal kick restarts play
when the attacking team touches the ball across the goal line when a goal is
not scored.
The opposing team places the ball 5
yard box in front of goal and a free kick takes place. The defending team shall
back off 5 yards.
CORNER-KICKS
A corner kick is awarded
to the attacking team when the ball crosses the goal line after touching a
defender.
The ball will be placed in the
corner and kicked into play by the attacking team. The defenders must be 5
yards off the ball.
Helpful Hints
Coaches/parents keep the players
ready to go into the game.
Teams stay together on the sideline
so the coach can substitute.
KEEP IT FUN AND SAFE
Parents / Coaches- do not let the
kids hang or swing from goals.
The U6 and U8 goals are not made for
big kids with big powerful kicks. The U10 /U13 shall practice with the large
goals.
