Indian River

The Y’s nationwide Adventure Guides program started in the 1920s with the help of Ojibwa Chief Joe Friday of Missouri. What began as a father-son program imbued with the traditions of the American Indian. It has since evolved to include a father-daughter component designed to strengthen the bonds between parent and child, and create memories for a lifetime. The Adventure Guides & Princess program is based on the Y’s core qualities of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. The Y’s Adventure Guides program began in Indian River County in 1959. Activities include camping, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, kayaking, campfires and team-building exercises.
