Masks and Face Coverings at the Y

Your safety is our priority! As we are getting lots of questions regarding the new Martin County Mask Ordinance and how it affects life here at the Y, we wanted to take a minute to share with you some of the details regarding the mask requirement here at the Y~

Staff Masks: Masks have been required for staff for quite a while now.  We’ve recently added that even staff outdoors now have to wear masks to include lifeguards and camp counselors since social distancing isn’t always possible.  It’s important to us to keep the health and safety of our staff and members as a priority in our daily operating practices and to follow the rules and regulations set forth by our local government.

Member Masks:  Due to the county mask ordinance, we will require everyone coming through the front doors to have a mask on.  As members are checking in, our desk staff will not allow facility access if a mask is not being worn.   Since the ordinance says that masks are not required to be worn when actively working out, we will define this as the actual fitness center or anywhere a group exercise class is being held.  All Members should be wearing masks in common areas like the hallway, locker rooms and lobby. Please note that masks are also required while on the pool deck.  While you may remove it during your swim, please know that you will need to wear it while on the pool deck.  Please plan to have a mask on when you enter our facility.

Youth Masks: All children in our childcare (Preschool, Summer Camp and now Childwatch) over the age of 2 are required to wear masks both inside and outside.  We realize how hard (and hot) it is to wear a mask outside, but with kids, we cannot rely on their ability to fully socially distance at all times.  Staff in charge of caring for children must enforce that the kids in our care wear their masks or buffs.  Children without masks will be turned away at drop off if they do not arrive with one.

Thank you in advance for helping us adhere to these new guidelines – we are all in this TOGETHER!
